🧠 Speak your dream life into reality

... plus something special for you

I think you should be more delusional. The universe puts big dreams in the hearts of those who can actually achieve them. You’re meant for this. Keep going.

I’m VERY excited to announce my optimism card collaboration with Intelligent Change. Pre-order it now, and you’ll get a FREE Five Minute Journal. Check it out here. I can’t wait for you to transform your life through the power of optimism.

THREE mindsets to help you reflect, rebel, and reinvent…

1. Create a new reality.

In 2018, researchers at the University of Oxford asked a simple question: How much of feeling tired comes from your body, and how much comes from what you believe your body has just experienced?

To find out, they gave people with insomnia fake sleep scores. Some were told they had slept well. Others were told they had slept poorly. In reality, the feedback had nothing to do with how anyone had actually slept.

Yet those who believed they had slept poorly reported more fatigue, sleepiness, and daytime impairment than those told they had slept well. The researchers hadn't changed anyone's sleep. They had changed the story people believed about their sleep - and that story changed the day that followed.

The study wasn't suggesting biology doesn't matter. Sleep matters. It showed something more powerful: once your body generates sensations, your brain still has to decide what those sensations mean.

Expectation becomes interpretation. Interpretation becomes experience.

Language isn't only descriptive. We tend to think words arrive after an experience by labeling what already happened. Psychology suggests the relationship runs both ways. Sometimes the words come first, and the brain builds the experience around them.

Every day, your brain is telling a story. I'm exhausted. This meeting will be draining. Nothing ever goes my way. Those sentences become predictions, and predictions shape what your brain notices, remembers, and prepares you to experience.

The goal isn't blind optimism. It's using intentional words. You're always narrating your own life. And the story your brain believes becomes the reality you live.

2. Pivot your life

Something is happening. So many people in their 30s and 40s are pivoting their entire lives. I posted my reflections on a mid-life pivot on Instagram earlier this week and they really resonated with people.

The coolest people I know have lived at least three different lives over the past 10 years.

You are allowed as many plot twists as you can dream up. Life is too short to spend the whole thing introducing yourself the same way.

Somewhere, a 58-year-old is about to have the best year of their life. Why are we so convinced that can’t be us?

One life. Fit as many versions of yourself into it as you can.

You don't have to be just one thing in this lifetime. Be the accountant who becomes a DJ. The lawyer who opens a flower shop. The engineer who writes a novel.

Some of the happiest people I know have the most confusing résumés.

3. Saying “everything works out for me” actually works.

… and science agrees.

Research says you can just decide good things happen to you… and statistically, they’ll start to. Scientists proved it. They handed golfers a ball and said "here's your ball, it's been lucky today." They made 35% more putts. Nothing changed but the story in their head.

Your brain doesn't run on facts. It runs on expectations. When you expect things to go your way, your brain tries harder and persists longer.

đźš« "Nothing ever goes my way."

âś… "Things have a way of working out for me."

A 10-year study found "lucky" people aren't lucky at all. They just expect good things - and that expectation makes them notice what other people miss.

Assume it's all unfolding in your favor and watch life rearrange itself around that belief.

(Optimism doesn’t change the universe, it changes you - and you change the outcome. Researchers consistently find that self belief works because it raises self-efficacy: people who think luck is on their side set higher goals and persist longer, and that’s what moves the numbers.)

Reminder

I know firsthand that there will come a time when you see how much of your life was built to please others. It’s very important to burn it all down and rebuild it for yourself.

Optimism can change your life

That’s it for today. See you next time.
