🧠 Never "fast forward" time

(how to be present)

mindfulness for rule breakers, free spirits, & inner peace enthusiasts

It’s so beautiful when someone who's been knocked down gets back up and shines brighter for having been through the darkness. Here are three mindsets to help you get back up, be present, and be proud of yourself.

THREE mindsets to help you reflect, rebel, and reinvent…

1. Don’t “fast forward” time

Listen to today’s podcast where I talk about why wanting to “skip to the good part” of life or wanting to “fast forward” through boring in-between days is really you asking for less time in life. Is that a good idea? Do you really want less time in life?

  • how to be present

  • how to embrace “in-between” days

  • how to minimize regret looking back on life

Listen here.

2. Not where you’re supposed to be?

Does anyone else ever feel like you’re not where you're supposed to be in life?

Like if you’re in your late 20s or 30s, there’s this expectation that by now you should definitely have it all figured out. Your parents did, everyone online seems to. Maybe you did one of those exercises in high school where you wrote a letter to your future self and you outlined all the things you’d be doing by 30… but if you read that right now you’d laugh at how you’re not doing those things.

I’m 35 and sometimes I feel l’m not where I’m “supposed” to be in my life. I invested 12 years into a career and then one day I quit to do what I felt drawn to. To write, to speak, to do all this. I started over. And maybe you've started over too or life made you start over… and here you are not where you’re “supposed” to be.

I used to get down on myself for not being where younger me thought I’d be right now, but I’ve realized that if you feel this way too… celebrate it. Your ability to be happy is not limited to what you achieve “on time.” Life isn’t about speed… it's about direction. Wouldn’t you say it’s better to wander in the RIGHT direction than to sprint in the WRONG one? To change your mind rather than to just do what’s expected of you?

Our happiness doesn’t come from where society thinks we 'should be' by now or where younger you thought you should be by now. It's about where we are, and the beauty we find there. And so at 35 or any age… it's okay to rewrite the script in search of that. To change directions. To reinvent. Life isn’t just about milestones, it’s about collecting memories. And right now if that’s what you’re doing, you're exactly where you’re supposed to be.

3. And yet here you are…

And yet here you are, despite the darkness you’ve experienced, choosing to spread light everywhere you go.

You’ve experienced setbacks, but now you’re stepping into a chapter of life more beautiful than you ever imagined. You’ve been doubted by others but you never doubted yourself. You’ve had baggage handed down to you, but you’re leaving old patterns behind and creating your own destiny. You’ve heard the whispers of your anxiety, but you’re still doing everything you put your mind to.

And yet here you are, despite the plot twists given to you, rewriting your story on your own terms. Despite inadequate love from others, you’re loving fully in all the ways you need. Despite a world that prefers conformity, you’re thriving as your most vibrant self.

That’s it for today. Until Monday,
