🧠 Affirmations really work

(but most people are using them wrong)

I have a theory that when you feel pulled to set fire to your old life and start over,  it’s your soul finally remembering what it came here to do.

» I’ve gotten so many kind messages about how my in-person MATRA sessions have helped people create optimism in their lives. I’ve set a goal of doing at least 50 keynotes/workshops next year. If you’re interested in having me lead a keynote for your organization or community group, check out this page.

THREE mindsets to help you reflect, rebel, and reinvent…

1. Affirmations really work…

… but most people are using them wrong

Most affirmations focus on adjectives: “I am confident.” “I am successful.” “I am worthy.” They feel good, but they’re fragile.

Research shows that affirmations around qualities keep you stuck in “identity-defense” mode instead of making sh*t happen mode.

Affirmations that actually change your life are built on verbs. Not who you are. What you do.

“I always show up.” “I will try again.” “I don’t quit on myself.”

Neuroscience shows verbs wake the brain up - they inspire your audacity. Labels activate self-monitoring - they lead to overthinking.

Studies show people who build self-belief around their effort outperform those who rely on a quality alone (e.g. confidence) by roughly 40%.

“A fun fact about me is I’m gonna make things happen one way or another.”

2. It’s your turn.

If you’re reading this it’s because your patience is about to be rewarded. Life usually goes like this: nothing, nothing, nothing… then EVERYTHING all at once.

That’s about to be your reality. Overnight.

The waiting is over and the love, the money, the joy is about to pour in.

3. SIX beliefs from 2025

I did some reflecting this morning on what I’ve learned this past year that I plan on taking into 2026. Here’s what I know to be true:

The kindness you put out into the world will always find its way back to you, multiplied.

When you love fully and without limits… you don’t lose anybody, they lose you.

Playing small doesn’t serve anyone. The world needs your wildest and most ambitious self.

If your gut says no, it’s your soul saving you a lot of trouble.

Being a bit delusional is how you turn the life you imagine into the life you live.

The way people treat you is a reflection of how they feel about themselves, not you.

Some things I’m excited about…
